Too Cool for Internet Explorer

Where does the time go…

July 15th, 2009 by Marie

Yet again I seem to be apologising for lack of attention to this blog - and yet again the excuse has to be, mainly, work. There are a few new short stories out, or due to be out (see the main site for details) - but other than that I’ve been beavering away quietly on a number of projects; most are still in progress, one is due out in a few months but still can’t be announced (I will be posting details on the news page of my site as soon as I’m allowed to, trust me :-) ), one is in its final stages and due out next year (again, not allowed to say what it is yet). Apart from the story/book projects I’ve been working hard on some scripts, learning as I go - and hope to have more news on those before too much longer, but you never can tell…

When we have taken a break from work, we’ve seen some movies - Wolverine, Drag Me To Hell, Angels and Demons, and enjoyed them all in varying degrees. LOVED Drag Me To Hell - classic Raimi, and so much fun (in a twisted, macabre sort of way - my favourite kind); and I hear there are still rumblings on the Evil Dead 4 front, so live in hope that it will see the light of day eventually.

There’s been some cracking TV this year, too - missed Being Human the first time round (can’t remember why, probably a scheduling clash of some sort), so caught up on the re-runs - really enjoyed the first three episodes, only to find it was then only viewable on BBC HD, which (naturally) I haven’t got! The lovely Paul has got it for me on DVD, though, so will finish those shortly. Paul’s also responsible for my current addiction to Supernatural - he got me the first three seasons on DVD for Christmas, and season 4 has just finished on TV; roll on season 5! Then there’s Fringe, Lost, Dollhouse…too much TV!! Also really got into Torchwood: Children of Earth last week - we were gutted when it finished, so again, the lovely Paul has ordered it for me on DVD. I was very disappointed to see that one of the writers, James Moran, took an inordinate amount of personal abuse (although it should be said that those posts formed a very small percentage of the comments received) for how the storyline developed. I won’t say anymore, in case anyone reading this hasn’t seen it; but in my opinion it was one of the TV events of the year - emotive, compelling, heartwrenching; loved every minute of it. James has responded to the posts on his blog, here, but he shouldn’t have had to really, personal comments should never have come into things, and it will be a very sad day indeed if the experience dissuades him from continuing with his blog.

Paul’s been inordinately busy, as usual, and it’s nice to see he has various things coming out soon (and also some recent things - the man writes his fingers to the bone!), have a look at his news page, here, for full details. We’re very excited to be going to the World Fantasy Convention in San Jose in October, it’ll be our first WFC. Before that, of course, there’s good old FantasyCon, in Nottingham in September.

Back to work now, and promise to try not to leave it so long till the next post…work permitting :)
